Red percher (Neurothemis ramburii)

Red percher (Neurothemis ramburii) is a species of dragonfly belonging to the family Libellulidae, characterized by a blend of deep red, brown, and black coloration. It inhabits both still and flowing waters in open areas and tends to remain stationary for long periods, perching on twigs or plant stems.

N. ramburii has a reddish-brown head. Its arched thorax is also reddish-brown and covered in fine hairs. It possesses a pair of large, dark red or blackish eyes, while the front of the head (the face) is large and bright red.



The body is cylindrical and segmented, with a predominantly red base color and a longitudinal red stripe running along the back. The two segments nearest the base of the abdomen are black, the tip of the tail is whitish, and the second and third segments from the tip feature black markings. The legs are dark or brownish in color.

This insect has two pairs of wings featuring a combination of red, black, and transparent areas. The prominent wing veins form a grid-like pattern filled with black, while the tips of the wings appear transparent.
