G. atropicta has a rounded and elongated head, brown in color, a pair of black eyes on the front, a pair of long and brown antennae between the eyes.
The legs are cylindrical, large, light brown or yellowish in color, the joints are dark brown and the calves have a glassy blue streak. Each leg has two rows of sharp, brown spines with brown, white and black tips.
The inner wings have a pattern of light brown and black stripes that will be visible when flying. The outer surface is transparent brown with yellowish veins that are visible at rest.
