Kangkang gunung (Prionolomia heros) is a species of insect belonging to the family Coreidae—a group of arboreal, plant-sucking insects. They exhibit sexual dimorphism and possess a pair of enlarged tibiae, as well as antennae consisting of four segments each. They inhabit limestone hills at an elevation of 600 meters, where they cling to the foliage and branches of large trees.
P. heros features pointed corners and spines along the lateral margins of its dorsal side. Its large legs are adorned with various protrusions. Males are larger and more slender, appearing black in color, with more prominent spines on their tibiae.
Females are smaller with broader bodies and smaller tibial spines; they are brownish-black in color and display white markings along both sides of their bodies.
This species is slow-moving, using its legs to grip branches and leaves. Toward the end of their lives, these insects become completely motionless; their bodies turn gray before gradually decomposing.
